Corruption is as we all know, prevalent in every society, town and city.It is present in the lower as well as the upper echelons of society ranging for the performance of duties in a speedy manner,non-performance of duties indefinitely,to the denial of one's own property.Even after more than 50 years of independence ,we have not been able to weed out this inherent social evil.It has spread its roots throughout our so-called modern society and has because a cause of worry to one and all.It is just not limited to the "dedicated" government servants and has spread throughout to the private sector too.It has in fact become one of the defining features of our country.Even foreigners view it as the mainstay of corruption rather than admitting that corruption too is present in their respective countries, even if in a lesser degree than our country.
Some people make arguments that their paltry salary,or the lack of availability of job opportunities is one of the main factors that forces them to resort to such a practice. They would like to be portrayed as the victims, instead of being portrayed as the rightful wrongdoers.I do not refute their statement,or the fact that their paltry salary is not enough for them to sustain a decent standard of living. In fact,i urge them to make themselves so good at their respective job, specialize in the job,so that their employers ,whether private or government have to raise their salaries, promote them etc.
The tax revenue which was recently collected by the government was at an all-time high;if the government has to ensue efficiency and minimize corruption if not completely remove it,it has to start at the grass-root level. It must pay salaries sufficient to provide a decent standard of living,in view of the rising inflation.By providing perks to the ministers alone, they cannot increase the efficiency of our system.By distributing money at the higher levels,it cannot expect that the money will trickle down to the lower levels.Furthermore, the private sector too should not take cheap but hard working labor for a ride,it must provide them an adequate standard of living as well as proper working conditions.
I would like to conclude by stating that, like it or not, corruption is prevalent in our modern-day society.we can just try to enlighten other people to the cause of reducing corruption, but we cannot force them. All in all,we must firstly,do our best to prevent this practice becoming malignant as it will have far-reaching consequences in the future. We should not promote nor accede to the giving or taking of money in the form of bribes for the speedy completion of our work.We have to be the one's to start saying no to corruption,if we have to influence others. After all, we must not preach without practicing it our ourselves.
