Ragging: from a fresher viewpoint

Ragging is essentially a way for the male to show his dominance over people of less age than his. It is comparable to the alpha male theory as is seen in the wolf pack. They fight to get the majority of the food to show their supremacy over others. They are in no way better then those of lesser age, in fact, the latter may even be physically and more mentally fit than them. They rag their juniors as they wish to prove that they are better than them. They are in fact insecure about themselves that is why they try to take it out on their younger counter parts. It is their frustration at living in a boy’s hostel away form their families;rather than showcase their emotions, they take it out in a display of anger on the be-fuddled youngsters.This is seen in various aspects of life,for eg. The boss taking it out on his younger sub-ordunate not because of the latter’s inability to get the job done but because of the latter’s ability to do it better than his boss ever could. It is essentially a showcasing of their so called strength, to pester their junior’s unnecessarily. They do not get respect, nor are they feared by their incessant pestering, rather , I believe they should be pitied for their lack of self confidence rather than be feared for their mighty persona. They are mere people scared of finding out one day that they are not all that great as they perceive themselves to be. This is not meant as a diatribe against the so- called seniors, but, an explanation of why they behave as they do. So do not be afraid, do not cower in front of them, just remember at the end of they day, they are wanna-be’s emotionally distressed and a mental wreck. So, just laugh it off and smile cause you are better than them however you are wherever you are and whatever you do ……..
